This summer I joined the communications team at Grace Midtown Church as a photography intern. I have to admit, it was a strange feeling for me to accept a position at a church. Growing up I wasn't raised to be super religious. We would occasionally pray before a meal and attend vacation bible school, and I spent the majority of my childhood in and out of attendance at varying southern baptist churches. I accepted the internship position with the mindset that this would be a good opportunity to give back to the community, a service project if you will. Little did I know that this internship was meant to change my heart. I joined the communications team with the intention of growing my personal photography network, expanding my portfolio, and quietly outdoing my team mates. But I ended up walking away feeling humbled, challenged, loved, less ME minded and more YOU minded, all with a brand new family by my side. This season of my life has been so rewarding and I think these photographs can speak testament to that. I went into this season hoping to grow as a photographer, but I ended up growing even more as an indivdual. This past Sunday I completed my last assignment for the summer with the photography team by photographing baptisms. 14 Individuals decided to make public professions of their choice to follow Jesus all the days of their lives. It was SO MOVING to capture this emotional event. Thank you Grace Midtown Communications Team for an amazing summer! It will not soon be forgotten.
